Children in University Activities
To create an environment which supports staff and students with responsibilities for children, through enabling reasonable consideration of requests from staff and students to bring their children to a University activity, and to give effect to the University’s legal and policy obligations with respect to staff and students with carer responsibilities.
This Policy applies to all staff and students who are parents/carers/guardians who wish to bring their children to a University activity, including students studying at the University’s partner provider locations.

|University Activity:||any activity, or location of an activity, for which the University has responsibility as part of the University operations.|
|Staff:||any person who is an employee of the University including, for the purpose of this Policy, other contracted staff.|
|Student:||any person enrolled as a student of the University.|
The University is committed to policies and practices which support staff and students who are parents/carers/ guardians.
The University recognises there are occasions when allowing staff and students who are parents/carers/guardians to bring their children to a University activity assists these staff and students to balance their work/study and caring responsibilities. However, the University recognises that, in a variety of situations, there are reasons why such access may need to be refused or limited.
Reasonable consideration will be given to requests from staff and students to bring their children to a University activity on an occasional and short-term basis. As such, children attending University activities, or any decision to limit the attendance of children, must be in accordance with the Children in University Activities Procedure.
In any approved instance of children attending a University activity, the parents/carers/guardians are responsible for the supervision, at all times, and safety of their children.
All staff with responsibility for other staff and/or for student activities and/or for specific locations have responsibility to implement this Policy with reference to the Children in University Activities Procedure.
The Manager, Equity and Equal Opportunity is responsible for the provision of advice and promulgation of this Policy.
The Dean of Students and Registrar has overall responsibility for the implementation of this Policy.
The Children in University Activities Policy will be communicated throughout the University via an Announcement Notice via FedNews and on the 'Recently Approved Documents' page on the 'Policies, Procedures and Forms @ the University' website to alert the University-wide community of the approved Policy.
