This procedure describes the process for the election and training of Health and Safety Representatives.
This procedure applies to all employees of the University. It applies to all campuses, buildings and grounds of the University and to all activities associated with the work of employees.

Note 2: One Health and Safety Representative is elected for each DWG(see Note 3). HSRs can apply to the University Health and Safety Policy Committee for a Deputy HSR (DHSR) position to be created to assist them in their task. Note 3: At Federation University, HSRs and their deputies are elected for a period of three years except as prescribed under the Act. At the end of their term, they may self-nominate for another term under the process described below. |

Note 4: Health and Safety Representatives are not obliged to attend any specific course, and are entitled to choose the approved course they wish to attend, in consultation with their Executive Dean/Director. They must give their Executive Dean/Director a minimum of 14 days’ notice. Contact the Health, Safety and Wellbeing department with any queries. |
- The Health and Safety Policy Committee is responsible for monitoring the implementation, outcomes and scheduled review of this procedure
- The Head – Health, Safety and Wellbeing is responsible for maintaining the content of this procedure as delegated by the Health and Safety Policy Committee
The Health and Safety Representative Procedure will be communicated throughout the University community in the form of:
- an Announcement Notice via FedNews website and on the ‘Recently Approved Documents’ page on the ‘Policies, Procedures and Forms @ the University’ website; and
- an email to Executive Deans, Directors and Health and Safety Representatives.
